From May 13 to 22, 2022, the Bienal Mineira do Livro (Minas Gerais Book Biennial) took place, the largest literary event in Minas Gerais, offering a comprehensive, consistent, and innovative cultural program. It brought together publishers, distributors, and bookstores from all over Brazil and featured authors representative of national and international literature. It welcomed, in person, thousands of participants of various age groups, especially students, educators, and families from all over Brazil.

The writer honored at the 2022 Bienal was Olavo Romano, a great partner and friend of Itaminas.
Olavo Romano studied Law (PUC-MG), Business Administration (master’s degree from FGV-RJ), English (proficiency certification from the University of Michigan), and Educational Planning (World Bank). He taught English at several schools and Business Administration at PUC-MG. He built a career in public service, retiring as a State Attorney.
In 1979, he published his Minas Gerais tales and poetic texts in Estado de Minas, in Jornal de Casa, and in the magazines Globo Rural, Palavra, Cícero, IstoÉ and Veja. He now writes for Mercado Comum and also appears in the “Prosa arrumada” segment of the Arrumação program on TV Minas. He has nearly twenty published books, eight of which are widely adopted in schools in Minas Gerais and other states. Among the works adopted in schools, which focus on the ways, speech, and life of rural Minas Gerais, are: Casos de Minas, Paz e Terra, SP, 1982, 6th ed.; and Minas e seus casos, Ática, SP, 1984 (out of print).

His lively and sensitive prose paid tribute to executives and dozens of employees at Alcan, as well as executives at Acesita and Samarco, and has also appeared, since the 1980s, in various Cemig reports.
He has received honors from Estado de Minas, Lions Clubs International, the State government, and the Oliveira City Council. The title of honorary citizen of BH will soon be awarded.
Olavo had been invited to be honored at the 2020 Bienal, but the event was postponed due to the pandemic. He said he couldn’t wait to satisfy his longing for the good old atmosphere of a literary event. “It’s an immense joy to be honored and to have the chance for this face-to-face encounter that everyone needed so much.”
Itaminas took part in the event by sponsoring the program presented by Olavo Romano, “Prosa e Cantoria.”
Dear friends such as Celso Adolfo, Chico Lobo, Carlos Faria, Saulo Laranjeira, Paulinho Pedra Azul, Rodrigo Delage, Tau Brasil, Tino Gomes, Wilson Dias, and sisters Celinha and Lu were present at Palco Minas.
