PEA (Environmental Education Program) came about as a way to connect Itaminas with the residents of Sarzedo
Itaminas’ PEA was created as part of the operation’s Environmental Licensing process, based on the legislation on Environmental Education Programs in Minas Gerais state, specifically COPAM Normative Resolution No. 214/2017 and its subsequent amendments.
PEA was developed based on the results of a Participatory Social Diagnosis carried out with the internal public (employees and contractors) and the external public (residents and the school community).
This project proposes a dialogue-based approach in which participants are the protagonists at all times, through participatory methodologies aimed at the well-being of everyone involved, promoting understanding of topics related to environmental conservation, encouraging environmentally responsible behavior, and fostering this educational practice in everyday life.
Itaminas constantly carries out various initiatives with the community and the company’s employees. Among these initiatives is “Amigos da Natureza” (Friends of Nature). Itaminas’ Environmental Department created 6 mascots to take part in educational talks, educational booklets, and presentations for students at every school in Sarzedo.
The contest held had the participation of more than 600 children, who contributed their suggestions and creativity.
