For the second consecutive year, Itaminas supported the Outubro Rosa (Pink October, breast-cancer awareness campaign) run by Instituto Mário Penna.
The 2023 Outubro Rosa campaign encourages prevention and promotes healthy habits. Building a culture of early diagnosis is essential to reducing breast cancer cases and improving treatment outcomes. After all, when diagnosed at an early stage, the chances of a cure increase to 95%.
The morning of the 29th began in a special way, bringing people together for solidarity and for encouraging a healthier lifestyle. The 2nd Corrida Mário Penna (Mário Penna Run), which started at 7 a.m., took place in Pampulha and brought together athletes and participants around a common goal: securing treatment for thousands of Mário Penna’s cancer patients. The event closed out this year’s Outubro Rosa activities and raised more than 100,000 reais for the institution.
The Corrida Mário Penna, which is becoming a fixture on Minas Gerais’ sporting calendar, drew a crowd of 3,000 people, including athletes and other participants who care about the cause. In the 5km race, Leonardo Felipe Gamileira and Fernanda Santos took first place, while in the 10km category, Ivanildo Pereira and Jozeli Janis de Castro were the winners.
For Marco Viana Leite, president of Mário Penna, the second edition brought positive results and has already become a fixed event on the institution’s calendar. “Besides raising funds for Mário Penna, the race also has the power to raise people’s awareness. For us, the race is here to stay,” he said.
