Internal Emergency Drill – PAEBM

Simulado Interno – PAEBM

On November 22, Itaminas’s Environment department carried out an Internal Dam Emergency Simulation Drill under the PAEBM (Mining Dam Emergency Action Plan). The drill is a mandatory preventive exercise designed to follow guidelines on how to respond to a dam emergency. The PAEBM is an easy-to-understand document that must be prepared by the operator.

This plan identifies emergencies that could threaten the integrity of the dam and defines who must be notified in the event of such occurrences. The goal of the PAEBM is to prevent loss of life in the event of an incident.

Dam inspectors detect a change in the dam’s safety conditions, and the PAEBM coordinator is called in to determine whether it is an emergency situation.

After the anomaly is identified, the audible alarm system is triggered, signaling a preventive evacuation at Emergency Level 2, at which point all employees must stop their activities immediately and head to the nearest meeting points.

Upon arriving at the meeting point, attendance is recorded and participants answer a satisfaction survey about the audible alert system, the evacuation routes, the meeting points, and the effectiveness of the communication.

The main goal of the drill is to measure employees’ evacuation time and ensure that everyone is safe at the meeting points and attentive to the alarm signal.

After the drill, the PAEBM coordinators and the heads of the Environment and Occupational Safety departments meet to correct any issues and highlight improvements, with the main goal of ensuring everyone’s safety and achieving better results in future drills.
