July 1 went down in Sarzedo’s history with the inauguration of the first construction phase of the Sarzedo Waterfall Municipal Nature Park (Parque Natural Municipal Cachoeira de Sarzedo) conservation unit, built in partnership with the Sarzedo City Hall.

In this first phase, walking trails, restrooms, drinking fountains, lookout points, an entrance gate, parking areas, cultural plazas, spaces for outdoor leisure and environmental education, a playground, a pet area, and other features were built to enhance the region’s natural environment.

The inauguration was attended by prominent authorities, including Ione Pinheiro (state representative), Pinheirinho (federal representative), city council members, deputy mayor Ritinha, State Secretary of the Environment Marília Melo, mayor Marcelo Pinheiro, and deputy governor professor Mateus.

During the ceremony, Minas Gerais deputy governor Mateus Simões praised the initiative. “The population is receiving an impressive project. It’s a beautiful thing to see, and there will still be a second phase. This shows that dialogue between government and private enterprise is possible, and Itaminas is one of the partner companies,” he said.

The park is also mentioned with great pride by Itaminas president Cristiano Paz, who sees the place as an achievement, and who also credits Pedro Nehring, the landscape architect who designed the park’s landscaping project before passing away in 2023. “We hope this legacy will be preserved. The park will be a gift to all of us. Pedro Nehring is one of the greatest landscape architects I have ever known. Sadly, he is gone, but he left us a legacy we must be grateful for,” he noted.

The second phase of the Sarzedo Waterfall Municipal Nature Park is scheduled for the first half of 2025.

The park is located at Av. São Lucas, 364 – Santa Rosa neighborhood, and is open Tuesday through Sunday from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., with free admission.
