Inspection – Fire Department and Civil Defense

Vistoria – Corpo de Bombeiros e Defesa Civil

On September 3, the 2nd Fire Department Battalion, together with Sarzedo’s Municipal Civil Defense, carried out an inspection of Itaminas’s dams and the Self-Rescue Zone (ZAS) under the PAEBM (Mining Dam Emergency Action Plan).

The inspections involve checking parameters such as water volume, structural stability, drainage systems, and the physical integrity of the dams, using advanced technology such as drones, sensors, and geotechnical reports. For the ZAS, the goal is to ensure that escape routes are clear and properly marked, and that residents in risk areas are informed and trained in case evacuation becomes necessary.

The inspection helps identify and prevent technical issues such as seepage, displacement, or erosion, ensuring that corrective action is taken immediately if a problem is detected. In addition, periodic inspections are essential to reduce risks associated with extreme events such as floods and landslides, preserving community safety and the region’s environmental integrity. The adoption of strict safety protocols, including integration with emergency plans, aims to minimize the impact of any failures, protecting lives and the environment.
